Born in Bitlis in 1986, M. Emrullah Arafatoğlu graduated from Akdeniz University’s Faculty of Fisheries in 2013. In 2017, he completed a master’s programme at the University of Plymouth in the UK, focusing on fish breeding in sustainable aquaculture systems.

He researches the adaptation of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) to culture conditions, larval production and the effects of two different feeding diets on larval development. He develops projects on the impact of climate change on fisheries stocks and the distribution of invasive species. He also focuses on establishing national sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) breeding lines, optimising reproductive methods and their practical application to the future of aquaculture.

He is married and has a good command of English.
