A graduate of Istanbul University’s Forest Engineering programme, Sefa Karabaş received a Ministry of National Education YLSY scholarship in 2017 to study forest fires. After language training at the University of Delaware, he completed a master’s degree at Oregon State University covering forest fires, microclimate variation, vegetation management and ecophysiology. During his research project in the United States, he worked for two years as a research assistant and one year as a spatial data analysis consultant at the Vegetation Research Management Cooperative (VMRC). He also worked as a teaching assistant for a Forest Economics course in the same faculty.

Karabaş speaks advanced English, is married and has one child.

Since 2016, he has worked as a forestry engineer with a master’s degree in the Monitoring and Control Division of the Department of Forest Management and Planning at the General Directorate of Forestry. He began doctoral studies in Forest Yield in 2017 and completed his PhD at Karatekin University in 2023.

Davut Atar has published papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals and participated in projects with UNDP, the World Bank and FAO.

He has a good command of English, is married and has two children.
